Tapping into high-speed threading.
The XTF Forming Tap is a TiCN coated tap for high-speed tapping of
stainless and carbon steels. The taps produce threads by displacing
material to create the thread form. Since there are no cutting chips,
higher speeds can be achieved compared to conventional cutting taps,
according to the manufacturer. The taps' crests are rounded off to
promote smooth plastic flow and prevent cracks and burrs in the root of
the internal thread. They feature a high cobalt HSS substrate for
hardness and heat-resistance. The TiCN coating further enhances these
properties. The taps are available in inch sizes from 0 to 80 to 1/2 to
20, and in metric sizes from M2 x 0.4 to M12 x 1.75.
