Mary Madison was recently named executive director of the American
Health Information Management Association's (AHIMA) Foundation of
Research and Education (FORE). Madison comes to the position after
serving both as executive director of the Blue Cross Blue Shield
Foundation on Health Care and managing director of health services for
Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Last year, FORE generated more than
$2.4 million in scholarship support for health information management
(HIM) students. The organization also directs research and policy
projects for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of
the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, the National
Library of Medicine and other organizations. "The enormous
potential for growth is evident in FORE's track record as it has
become the single most influential supporter of HIM research and
education," said Madison. FORE was created in 1962 as a separately
incorporated affiliate organization founded and managed by AHIMA to
provide infrastructure of knowledge, research and education in the field
of HIM.
