PUPILS are being urged to set their sights high and have a go at a
25ft climbing wall.
Police in Wallsend, North Tyneside, are bringing the wall to
Stephenson Memorial First School, Howdon Lane, on Monday, when they will
meet students aged 10 and 11.
PC John Daniels, beat manager for Willington Quay and Howdon South,
said: "Part of our job as neighbourhood officers is to get to know
all areas of our beat.
"Climbing and other outdoor activities are great ways for
youngsters to keep fit and have fun with others their age, help keep
them occupied and is a good alternative to hanging around street
corners.
"I'll be making regular appearances at the school over
the coming months and I hope to get to know many pupils. It's
important that young people know who their local officer is."
PC Daniels will hook youngsters up to a safety harness before
encouraging them to climb the wall, which has been borrowed for this
event from the Army Cadets.
