HEATON Harriers have had a superb year as far as their seniors are concerned.

And now the Newcastle club is turning its attentions to attracting youngsters in the East End of the city to go along and give athletics a try.

Earlier this year Heaton gained promotion to Division One of the North Eastern Harrier League, while their women's team took all before them to lift the Wansbeck Shield.

That success was carried over into the track season and the men and women's combined efforts earned them a second successive promotion in the North of England League.

With that success behind them they are now hoping to resurrect a junior section and next Thursday, September 11, they are launching a junior athletics club which will be based at the club's Blue Flames indoor sports hall, Benton.

Qualified coaches will be in attendance, with the target being girls and boys aged between seven and 14.

Anyone interested should turn up next Thursday with their training gear at 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start.
