OWNERS and staff at a Newcastle hotel were toasting success after
receiving a top award.
Jesmond Dene House was named AA Hotel of the Year, in the same week
it celebrates its third birthday.
The hotel, housed in a Grade II-listed building overlooking the
city's Jesmond Dene, impressed judges by demonstrating an
excellence and significant improvements throughout last year.
Owned by Durham property developer Peter Candler and chef Terry
Laybourne, the 40-bedroom hotel was said to offer the "escapism of
a country house combined with a contemporary feel". The food was
hailed as "straightforward, seasonal, flavour some and fresh."
Peter said: "We were always ambitious, but to be named AA
Hotel of the Year in the first three years is a real achievement."
AA hotel services manager Simon Numphud said: "Jesmond Dene
House proved to be a strong, all-round performer."
