I really enjoyed Dr. H. Steven Moffic's article ("Is
There a [Real] Doctor on the Plane?" The Ethical Way, June 2008, p.
62).
The same thing happened to me on a return flight from Hawaii.
There was a man with chest pain on the plane. The flight attendant
got on the loudspeaker and asked for a doctor. My sister got all excited
and started gesturing to me.
Luckily, there were many docs on this flight, and even an EMS and
ER nurse who rushed to the patient's aid.
When the flight attendant came to see what my sister was gesturing
about, I told her that I was a psychiatrist. Her response:
"That's nice, honey," and she patted me on the shoulder!
