Bar Association names officers, plans awards.(Notes)

The Arkansas Bar Association will hold its 111th annual convention June 10-13 at the Arlington Hotel & Spa at Hot Springs.

Donna C. Pettus of the Pettus Law Firm PA of Fayetteville will be sworn in as president of the association on June 12. She takes over from Rosalind M. Mouser of Ramsay Bridgforth Harrelson & Starling LLP of Pine Bluff.

Other new association officers for 2009-2010 include:

* President-elect, Jim Julian, Chisenhall Nestrud & Julian PA, Little Rock;

* Board of Governors Chair, Frank B. Sewall, Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Little Rock; and

* Young Lawyers Section Chair, Anthony W. Juneau, Mitchell Williams Law Firm, Rogers.

The secretary, treasurer and parliamentarian will be voted on during the House of Delegates meeting.

During the convention, these awards will be presented:

* Outstanding Lawyer Award, Kent I. Rubens, posthumously;

* Outstanding Lawyer-Citizen Award, state Sen. lames C. "Jim" Luker, District 17;

* C.E. Ransick Award of Excellence, H. William "Bill" Allen, Allen Law Firm, Little Rock;

* James H. McKenzie Professionalism Award, Judge lames M. Moody, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas; and

* Equal Justice Distinguished Service Award, Don Hollingsworth, senior associate, Arkansas Center for Health Improvement.

* Arkansas Bar Foundation Legal Writing Awards: William A. Waddell It., Friday Eldredge & Clark LLP, Little Rock and John C. Calhoun Jr., Hilburn Calhoon Harper Pruniski & Calhoun Ltd, Little Rock;

* Arkansas Bar Foundation General Writing Award: Sid McCollum, ADR Inc., Little Rock.

The following will be presented with the Golden Gavel Award:

* Professor Howard W. Brill, Vincent Foster University Professor of Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility at the University of Arkansas School of Law;
