Continental Teves, a unit of Continental AG, said that it will
build a $3.5 million plant in Silao, Mexico. The 100,000 square-foot
facility will manufacture brake actuation components, with production
expected to begin in 2004.
"Making this investment in North America will allow us to
continue meeting customer demands for advanced braking systems,"
said Bill Kozyra, president, Continental Teves North America. "We
recently received significant new business awards with major automakers
that allows us to take this important step in growing our actuation
business.
The new Silao facility will supply customer assembly plants in
Mexico." The facility will be Continental Teves' second in the
Silao area and Continental's fifth in Mexico. Continental currently
operates a Continental Teves sensor plant in Silao, an electronics
facility in Cuautla, a tire plant in San Luis Potosi, and a ContiTech
facility in San Luis Potosi.
In 2001, Continental Teves opened its first Silao facility to
produce wheel speed sensors for anti-lock brake systems.
