In a move to improve competitiveness, General Motors said that it will combine its Allison Transmission and its GM Powertrain divisions, effective immediately. GM said the combination of the transmission and motor engine units will not result in any job cuts and have no impact on customers.

Under the new structure, Lawrence Dewey, president of Allison Transmission, will report to Thomas Stephens, group vice president of GM Powertrain, which makes engines for GM cars and trucks as well as inboard boat motors.
