For entrepreneurs who are new to Twitter, the process of getting started can be the most challenging step. One of the best ways to find your way on the social network is to first look for people and businesses that you want to follow personally, according to Jason Falls, author and CEO of Louisville, Ky.-based Social Media Explorer, a social media marketing, digital marketing and public relations consulting service.
While this may not necessarily help your business right away, it will enrich the experience for you and you'll at least start to understand the medium better. Falls suggests following leaders in your industry and watching how they approach Twitter. You may also want to retweet some of the compelling things they say. Also, when you meet new contacts at networking events or conferences, consider connecting with them on Twitter as well.
"If you're just spitting out a sales line over and over again, you're limited to the amount of people who are going to follow you," Falls says.
