I have been hired by a small business owner to plan marketing for the business and run publicity. I just graduated from college and I have a little bit of marketing experience but not much real-world stuff. What resources can I use to learn this job?Even though you just graduated from school, you are really a student for the rest of your life if you are lucky. Look in your community to see what types of professional trade organizations exist like an Ad Club or a Publicity Club for example. Many of these groups offer professional development training, seminars, webinars, conferences, etc. on topics that would be helpful to you at this point in your career. There are also national organizations that put on events with prominent speakers and panels that would be great opportunities for you to grow and learn. There is a lot of information online and books on these topics as well, but I always find you learn more from first-hand experience so ask lots of questions along the way.
The business owner is the author of a series of "survival guides" for college students. She is also a motivational speaker. My job is to learn how to market her skills to the right people (she is well aware of my experience level) and sell her books to professors, professionals, students and stores. I need some good resources for this job and some ideas as to where to start. I have already began working on a press kit but that probably needs work too.
Sounds like a great first job, congrats & good luck!
