Throughout the year, Zappos has been transitioning to "holacracy" to restructure its organization and culture, which will do away with internal job titles at the billion-dollar startup. John Bunch (who before the implementation of holacracy was technical advisor to Zappos founder Tony Hsieh) is charged with overseeing this groundbreaking program.

But holacracy isn’t just about de-emphasizing the titles of bosses, assistants and everyone in between. Instead, Bunch says the core of holacracy was inspired by the way industrious cities are structured.

"The research shows that as the size of cities double productivity per resident doubles," says Bunch. However, the inverse happens to companies that expand in size. In this video interview, he discusses how holacracy empowers Zappos workers to thrive and Hsieh's plans to revitalize downtown Las Vegas.
