The Internet's Having a Fit Over Mark Zuckerberg's Recent Jog Through a Smoggy Beijing

When Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced his New Year’s Resolution was to run 365 miles in a year, he probably didn’t imagine sympathy -- or China’s air quality and internet legalities -- would factor into it.

However, that’s exactly what happened after the Facebook founder posted an update to prove he’s taking his resolution seriously.

Taken in Beijing and uploaded on Friday, the post shows includes a photo of the CEO running through Tiananmen Square. Quickly, it received an onslaught on varied reactions.

While many users wondered how Zuckerberg posted to the site in the first place since, like many other social media platforms, Facebook is blocked in China, others voiced concerns about the thickening fog surrounding Zuckerberg and his jogging companions.

They weren’t wrong to worry. Turns out, Beijing had an air-quality index reaching over 300 on Friday, which is worse than Los Angeles on its worst days and 10 times more than the World Health Organization’s suggested limit. Under a “hazardous” warning, country officials told residents to avoid activity outside since the pollution and fog could cause problems for even the healthiest of lungs.

But apparently, that didn’t deter Zuck from smiling during his daily jaunt.
