Signature Start Up Masterclass began on a spectacular note with Vir Das, the comedy maverick who took the road less travelled and pursued his passion for stand-up comedy, to become India's leading comedian and entertainer. Vir inspired the audience through his free-wheeling chat with the witty host Cyrus Sahukar at the event in Goa on May 16, 2016 that relayed his passion to pay check story in the budding comedy industry. Signature Start Up Masterclass is a unique platform to inspire and enable those who want to follow their passion and make a mark for themselves.
From being a doorman at the Grand Lux Cafe in Chicago 14 years ago, to performing at the same theatre, Vir Das has truly made his mark in the international comedy circuit as well as in India. Hailing form Dehradun and growing up in Africa, Vir was equipped with degree in Economics and acting from Knox College in Illinois and Harvard University in Cambridge. Knox was also where he first explored his passion for stand-up comedy in front of an audience of 800 in the college's main theatre.
With an aim to take the comedy scene in India to another level, he started off on the entrepreneurial route and started his company Weirdass Comedy in 2010. It is a full-fledged content company that anchors comedy across format - from stand-up to live shows, comedy festivals to television and digital shows and soon-to-be-launched feature films.
Vir Das, the popular comedian and entertainer said, "It was exciting to be in Goa for the Signature Start Up Masterclass. It is great to be associated with a platform in India that inspires people to follow their passion and make a mark. The evening witnessed a remarkable turnout at Soro – The Village Pub, who were motivated to follow their passion and make their mark. The audience was entertained by a live performance by Nicholson – a band known for laid-back and experimental electronica music.
