How This Military Spouse and Former Teacher Became a Successful Travel Agency Franchisee An inside look at one person's journey following her passion and becoming a business owner.

Martha Velez spent 16 years as an educator, serving various roles including teacher, assistant principal, and administrator, to name a few. Then, last year, her husband Eddie—a former U.S. Marine—relocated to Austin, Texas, for work. That's when she decided she was ready for a professional change as well.

Being a passionate traveler, Velez discovered an opportunity that enabled her to pursue that passion while working from home and spending more time with her husband and two children. After some research, Velez and her husband decided to become co-franchisees with Dream Vacations.

In the video above, Entrepreneur editor-in-chief Jason Feifer met with Velez aboard a cruise ship to learn about her journey becoming a travel agency business owner.

Founded in 1991 and franchising since 1992, Dream Vacations turns franchise owners into travel experts who help guide customers to alluring destinations all over the world, as well shore excursions, hotels and tours for individuals, couples, families, businesses and groups. With the company's training program, all you need is a passion for travel and an interest in a fun business opportunity.

"You create a business plan, they walk you through that, and we set some goals and expectations," Velez said. "I've been able to exceed those [goals] and I really think that's because of the support system Dream Vacations provides."
