If your motto in life is "the faster, the better," you probably aren't looking for a franchise that's crawling toward expansion. Fortunately for you, many franchises in a variety of categories are on the fast track to growth. Offering everything from tax preparation to sandwiches, here are the 100 franchises that grew the fastest over the past year.

These rankings are based on growth in the number of U.S. and Canadian franchise units from 2004 to 2005, as verified by Entrepreneur magazine. Ties are listed alphabetically. For more information on these franchises and helpful articles on buying a franchise, check out Entrepreneur's FranchiseZone at www.entrepreneur.com/franchise.

This ranking is not intended to endorse any particular franchise, but rather to provide a starting point for your research. Due diligence includes thoroughly reading a company's literature and its Uniform Franchise Offering Circular, calling and visiting the existing franchisees, and consulting with an attorney and an accountant. You should only buy a fast-growing franchise after slowing down and taking the time to conduct a careful investigation.
