Should I Learn Web Development?

I have an idea of a particular kind of micro-blogging website which I think will be both beneficial to the world and also make a good profit. But I have to decide which path to take: Should I learn web development -- including front-end design, back-end coding -- and create the website myself or hire someone else to make the website for me? What factors should I consider? What are the costs? Is there another way?

How Do I Launch a Membership-Based Website?

I am in the beginning stages of starting a website based on membership. I want to charge a small annual membership fee, and also charge for any face-to-face gatherings we may have. I also want to provide my members special perks for different levels of membership. I want to eventually make this my full-time job. What do I need to consider? Are there any websites that have been successful this way? What can I add to my website that may bring in sustainable profits?

I have an idea for a website, but I have no web developing experience. What's the best way to source this?

How can I find the personnel to start a website to compete with Craigslist?

My capital is sufficient and I have been successful in business, having retired young. I'm now tired of retirement and want the security of income. I would like to start an internet business similar to Craigslist or eHarmony.

My company creates custom content management systems for high-end clients using open-source software. Should we hide this from our customers?

Because the scope of capabilities is so wide with Joomla--friendly back-end interface and great look--it's essentially all we use. Open-source to us means value-added product because it's perpetually updated by devoted developers. A bonus is that it's completely free (not including certain plug-ins). <br /> <br /> We often wonder whether we should edit certain Joomla links and developers' logos out of the scripting, yet this does not follow the unwritten code of the open-source community. <br /> <br /> I have come across competitors who have deleted such logos and badging. Is this truly giving them an edge? Does my product come off as cheap?

How can I find a service provider that can help me develop and host an e-commerce website while fully integrating with a POS system at my store?

I will be opening a small retail store and e-commerce site. I am looking for a provider who can help me design and host the website and has a solution that integrates inventory management, gift receipts and gift cards at POS. I found some great web design and hosting companies, but they fall short on having all the POS capabilities and inventory integration I am loooking for.

Are there any free image verification code and scripts for my website?

I get an overwhelming amount of spam. My online signup form is filled with junk.

How can I create a website that can hold a high volume of video content?

I know that the costs are associated with bandwidth, but I'm not exactly sure of who to consult about the startup costs associated with the creation of such a website. I'm also wondering if you happen to have any recommendations of web developers who are capable of creating a high volume website of such.

How should I go about getting a website domain from someone who already has it?

Someone has a website domain that I want and, looking through the records, it expires in 2008. What is the best and least expensive way to approach them about getting the URL?

I am thinking of using, or Yahoo. I want to know if one is better than the other.
