Think all those young executives at start-ups haveloads of cash on hand to spend freely? Think again. A recent studyby found that pay modestsalaries but reward managers and directors with .

According to the study, titled "PricewaterhouseCoopersCompensation Survey of Dot.Com Executives," the average totaldirect compensation-including base , a cash bonus andincentives-for a CEO at a publicly traded Internet is arelatively modest $1.74 million. However, those same CEOs have a12.1 percent equity stake in their company, or a value of $468.5million.
