When designing a direct-mail piece, it is important to putyourself in the shoes of the recipient. When I was promoting mywedding videography business, I did just that-literally. I scouredthe society pages of local suburban Milwaukee newspapers and jotteddown dates and pertinent information announcing upcoming weddingsof recently engaged couples. I drafted real-looking weddinginvitations to promote my service and even included a response cardthat could be returned to request a quote. I sent each couple oneof my uniquely crafted invitations and secured my new weddingvideography clientele. The effort generated a 75-percent increasein business.
