How does your company fit into the current SMB hiring and salary trends?
Entrepreneurs kept hiring fewer people and paying existingemployees more during the first quarter of 2006. The SurePayrollSmall Business Scorecard, compiled by Skokie, Illinois, payrollservice SurePayroll Inc., showed that the dual trends maintainedthe directions they have taken since midway through last year.
A strong, 2.7 percent nationwide salary increase for the quartersuggests to SurePayroll president Michael Alter that a talent waris underway among entrepreneurs. "People are trying to findthe best employees or trying to trade up, and it's gettingharder and harder," Alter says.
