In an effort to extend its user base, Palm is currently rollingout an aggressive initiative to give its handheld computer usersthe ability to check into hotels, rent cars and buy airline ticketsin a flash-simply by beaming their personal information. Forgetshowing credit cards and filling out forms; Palm's infraredport will beam your specifics-name, address, phone and credit cardnumber-directly to the travel provider, who, in turn, will beam youback a receipt.
"It's much easier than the traditional purchase. Plus,your expense report will automatically be filled out," saysDoug Solomon, senior vice president and chief strategy officer ofPalm. "It's a real benefit to travelers."
