Next-generation cell phones kick mobile technology up a notch.

Next-generation phone services, meet reality. After years ofhearing about what our mobile phones will be capable of andwatching longingly as countries like Korea and Japan exerciseadvanced features, we're finally getting a taste of the futureright here at home. Third-generation, or 3G, cell-phone networksare starting to roll out across the country.
To find out what all the fuss is about, we looked at a handfulof phones that can take advantage of these faster networks. Forexample, we took the $200 LG VX8000 (all prices vary withcontracts) out for a test drive on the Los Angeles portion ofVerizon Wireless's EV-DO network. There, Verizon's VCaston-demand video service lets you watch streaming video clips righton your phone. We checked the local weather forecast, caught ashort CNN story on social entrepreneurs and got a rundown of theday's headlines.
