Long-term investors are setting sights on China.
China: It's been the emerging-market fund story since theearly 1990s, and prospects for investment opportunities this yearare more promising than ever.
Eric Sandlund, portfolio manager of the Columbia Newport GreaterChina Fund (NGCAX), says that the Chinese economy grew by awhopping 9.5 percent in 2004. "When you look at the macrolevel, it's been 15 years where you've had compoundedgrowth between 8 and 10 percent per year," he says, addingthat China's economy is a much bigger factor in the globaleconomy today than it was in the past century.
