In 2007, Julien Farel, a celebrity stylist who owns a chain of eponymous luxury salons, partnered with the US Open to create a special pop-up beauty salon for tennis pros at the annual tournament.

To quickly serve up trendy and practical styles for a high-volume of professional athletes, he runs an internal contest among his stylists at his flagship Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa in New York City. He tasks them to dream up ornate braids or sleek looks that can be completed quickly for players getting ready for matches. Just three winners are featured in that year’s Style Suite menu and brought to the competition’s pop-up salon.
