Neerja Birla's Organization is Doing What Very Few Can Brave Mpower, her organization is fighting for a cause that requires immediate attention - mental health

Birla, the founder of Mpower, is out on a mission; a mission that needs urgent attention.As the wife of renowned industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla she was always interested in serving the society. Only when she saw her daughter Ananya successfully steer her own businesses, she knew her commitment to the family had begun bearing fruits and she could now follow her dreams.

"My daughter is my inspiration," says the mother of three children of the Birla clan. With her effort via workshops and awareness campaigns, Birla wants mental health to become a topic of dinner-table discussions. She believes the primary roadblock to mental wellness is the stigma attached to it and that's what Mpower hopes to change at a national level, and government support towards this endeavor could change the way Indians perceive the issue. "In our country, it is necessary to start a dialogue and get more people talking about it," Birla says.

With a team of primary mental health workers, psychologists and counsellors, Birla works with children, young adults, families, schools and communities to provide them with services like assessments, therapies, psychiatric consultations, workshops and training. The team also holds regular workshops at the Centre for anyone who wants to learn, gain insights and be aware of mental wellness. "We want assistance to be available to anyone who seeks mental health care and anyone who needs it as well. We aren't far from becoming a healthy nation if we work together," says Birla.
