Increasingly, we live in a wired world, but let's face it: It's easier to be connected at home than abroad. From online scammers and identity thieves who lurk on unsecured Wi-Fi networks to absurd charges for mobile data usage (we're looking at you, Japan and Switzerland), there are all sorts of hazards waiting to befall the unsavvy business traveler.

And did you know there are 20 countries around the world, including such economic powerhouses as India, China and Russia, that censor the internet? As if that weren't bad enough, Americans abroad will have to put their media and entertainment diet on Weight Watchers; Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and other popular services are not available outside the United States.

The infographic here, created by VPN provider Hotspot Shield, lays out the various dangers and difficulties and provides some helpful tips for how to deal with them. It also explains the benefits of a VPN, or virtual private network. Check it out below.
