German-Turkish actress Meryem Uzerli, known for her role as Hürrem Sultan in one of the most successful Turkish series, Muhtesem Yüzyil (The Magnificent Century), was one of the speakers at the WE Convention, a conference organized by the Women's Empowerment (WE) Council, a Dubai-based women's empowerment community, on April 20-21, 2024.

Held at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai under the theme "Big Goals, Bold Choices," this year's edition of the WE Convention featured more than 100 speakers, 2,000 attendees, 23 sessions on the main stage, 12 roundtable discussions, and 42 one-on-one coaching sessions.

We caught up with Uzerli on the sidelines of the event to hear her thoughts about managing success and failure in life and business.

"Learning from success depends on which kind of state you are in at that time when you are achieving that success," Uzerli said. "When I was experiencing one of the biggest successes of my life, I wasn't feeling it, because at that moment I was not connected with my self-confidence, I wasn't connected with my inner self worth, and with my self-love as a human being. I was just doing my job, taking that seriously, I was very disciplined about it, and I wanted to make the best out of it. Afterwards, when the big success happened, as I wasn't connected with my inner self worth, I wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I should have."

Insider Insights: Actress Meryem Uzerli shares her notes for women seeking success

"I would say that in the beginning of your journey it's ok if you don't know exactly who you are, as figuring that out is a part of the journey. You still can get successful without knowing yourself enough. But for staying successful and not disappearing again, you need to know who you are. Beside that, consistency is key. No matter what, you are not allowed to give up. You must know what you want, you have to remind yourself of your goals, and if you don't do that, your soul will do so. Because if what you're doing is your real truthful purpose, then there is no way of giving it up. No matter what. And last but not least, putting yourself out there, and creating a big network, is always something which helps you to support others, and to get support for yourself."
