Students Say - Academics
"Indiana State University, home of the fighting Sycamores and alma mater of basketball legend Larry Bird, offers a "good education at a reasonable cost." Students can expect a "really special" experience; the "small class size and amount of individual attention" and the "faculty and student body make it really great." "I think that students and professors are closer to each other and interact more than they would at a larger school," muses one student. Most agree that the "exceptional, down-to-earth, and approachable" professors "seem to really know what they are doing." Thanks to this, students feel that ISU helps them "to grow personally, intellectually, and socially." However, "Things have not run smoothly" with a "disconnected" administration that leaves many students wishing they "had more say" in "financial planning and the usage of funds" allocated to the university."

Students Say - Campus Life
"During the week, students "gather with friends and play sports"; on weekends "There isn't much else other than parties at the frat houses." Those of age and without Greek affiliation head "to the 18 bars that are located near campus." Although some students lament that "there is not much to do in Terre Haute besides drink and party," others note that the "small, cozy campus" offers "a mostly full-fledged college experience." "Intramural sports are big here," reports one student. A lot of students are involved in "campus organizations and student groups," especially in fraternities and sororities---"Greek life is a big part" of the social scene at ISU. Many students commute to school, so "Not very many people stay here on the weekends or live on campus." For those with wheels, ISU's "proximity to Indianapolis gives access to great music venues," and excursions to "other colleges in the area to visit friends" are fairly frequent as well. "

Students Say - Student Body
"ISU is "small" but "not so small you feel like you're in high school again." Students describe themselves as "middle-class Americans just trying to get an education to do better in life." The typical ISU student "works hard academically while maintaining a healthy social life." Many students are "from small towns" and "rural areas" in "western Indiana and eastern Illinois." Others hail from "around Chicago and Indianapolis." "A large number of the students live within an hour of the school," and this accounts for the "many commuters" who "pack up and leave every weekend." While many ISU students tend to be "Christian in their beliefs" and "White," "ISU is big on diversity," and there is "an increasing amount of students who are of a different race or ethnic background." Nontraditional undergrads are present in significant numbers and "just seem to complement all the other students." "
