3 Benefits to Increasing Your Capacity Expand your capabilities by learning more, doing more and becoming more.

Before we jump into increasing our capacity, let's first define what capacity is. Capacity is the amount that something can contain and the amount that something can produce. When entrepreneurs feel burnt out or overwhelmed, it's typically because they feel they can't contain anymore, or they feel like they've already produced all they can.

The reality is that we can all increase our capacity (even if it starts out as just a little bit) by changing our perspective and mindset.

Here are a few quick questions to ask yourself to see if you feel like you've reached your capacity:

  • Do you feel you don't have any more to give?
  • Do you feel like you're running on fumes?
  • Do you feel drained and maxed out?

Entrepreneurs can become the very lid that prevents growth from occurring. Typically this happens because of their negative self-talk, their own limiting beliefs and negative thinking. You'll hear things like "there aren't enough hours in the day," and "I can't do it all," or "I'm only one person and I already have enough on my plate."

Negative talk and thinking can derail you from having the life and business that you really want.

To be effective leaders, entrepreneurs must switch the narrative in their minds. They have to get rid of this kind of thinking and understand that increasing your capacity increases your capability.

Below are three benefits to increasing your capacity.

You'll raise the bar for yourself and everyone else around you

There's an old quote that says, "To whom much is given, much is required."

This is a clear call to responsibility for increased capacity. In other words, if you want more out of life and you want more for yourself and your business, you've got to do more. You've got to figure out ways to create extra space. The more space you can create, the more you'll be able to contain.

My goal as a coach is to help my clients learn more, do more and become more. This is the essence of increased capacity. Remember, growth always increases your capacity. When those around you see you containing and producing more, it'll naturally compel them to either keep up with you or keep out of your way.

It will shift your thinking

Being an entrepreneur who's used to the monotony of a daily routine may allow you to be efficient, but it will never allow you to be effective. With increasing your capacity, you will not be content with doing the same things the same way you used to do them, because you now have a different perspective on going after bigger and better things.

You've made room for more so your mind goes to work differently than it had before. You'll begin to think more creatively, and you'll set goals that'll exceed the expectations you once had for yourself. Increasing your capacity will push you to new heights. If you're able to expand your thinking, you'll be able to expand your territory.

It'll take you where you've never been

Increasing your capacity will allow you to go places that you've never been before.

Why? Since you've decided to create more space, not only will you go after more, but more will come after you. You increase your capacity by learning more, doing more and becoming more. Now you'll have the ability to walk through certain doors that you would probably never have been able to walk through before busting the lid open.

Remember that there is more inside of you than you realize. I want to challenge you to wholeheartedly commit to increasing your capacity and see the change that comes from it. Cheers to the new you.
