Students Say - Academics
Students tell us that the College of Business and Public Administration at California State University-San Bernardino offers "a good mix of practical and theoretical business applications and concepts" in a program that delivers in a variety of disciplines, all "at a very good price." According to those we surveyed, the program is the perfect size, "small enough that you can build relationships with the professors and administration, but also big enough to give students some independence and freedom to do things on their own."
Entrepreneurship leads the pack here. The program is well supported by the CBPA's Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship, a research center that promotes entrepreneurship in the surrounding area. Operations management is also reportedly strong. Students here may pursue either a part-time or full-time MBA with one of eight concentrations: accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, information assurance and security, mgmt, information management, management, marketing, and operations management/supply chain management. While a few feel that "it would be nice if the school had a general MBA option, rather than having to select a major," most see no problem with the current system.
San Bernardino operates on a quarterly schedule, meaning that the term flies by quickly. The curricular emphasis "is practical and exposes you to real-world experiences." One student offers this example: "For my MBA project, l did a marketing plan for a company in Palm Springs called Crystal Pure drinking water. They manufacture water-purifying machines, and from the plan we developed they realized $1.6 million in sales within six months. Their websites had many hits from customers around the world. Professors "are seasoned in their fields of study and provide real-world application for what we learn. We don't just read about business, we create it, and we grow it."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the CSUSB MBA program must first apply for admission to the university, which requires a baccalaureate with a GPA of at least 2.5 for the final two years of undergraduate work. Students clearing this hurdle may then apply for admission to the MBA program. Applicants must submit two sets of official transcripts for all post-secondary academic work; an official GMAT score report; and a personal statement. Three letters of recommendation are recommended but are technically optional. International students must additionally provide an Affidavit of Financial Support and TOEFL scores (minimum score 550 paper, 213 computer, 79 Internet). The minimum requirement for admission to the program is a formula score of 1050 under the formula ((undergraduate GPA x 200) + GMAT score), with a minimum GMAT score of 470 and a minimum GPA of 2.5. No student may begin MBA work without having earned at least a C grade in the following undergraduate courses or their equivalent at another accredited institution: financial accounting I and II; microeconomics; macroeconomics; business finance; corporate finance; information management; business law; management and organization behavior; expository writing for administration; strategic management; marketing principles; business statistics; and principles of supply chain management.

Students Say - Campus Life
The CSUSB MBA program "has students from all over the world who make class discussions interesting and make one grow an appreciation of different cultures." MBAs here "are encouraged to do research and be involved in community activities," and the school offers "leadership development programs and faculty research seminars where students are also invited. This prepares students for future leadership roles in society." The degree to which students can take advantage of these opportunities varies; a sizeable portion of the student body is part time, typically pursuing a degree in addition to full-time employment.
The CSUSB campus "provides the latest technology for the students and an extremely comfortable setting." All students enjoy "plenty of places to relax and the scenery (the campus recently received an excellence award for its facilities management)." A recently completed student union includes "a new cutting-edge recreational sports facility," and students tell us, "The Fullerton Art Museum is also a great leisure escape." Conveniently, "Everything is within walking distance, and you get to know familiar faces because the campus is not as large as other CSUs."

Students Say - Careers
The Career Development Center at CSUSB serves all students at the university, undergraduate and graduate. Counselors there offer workshops in interviewing, resume writing, and job search strategies. The office arranges on-campus interviews and alumni meet-and-greets, and it also maintains a database of job listings. Some students wish that the school "would build stronger relationships with local companies," while others note that "there really isn't a demand for MBA graduates in San Bernardino County."However, many agree, "The teachers are always there to help when you need them . . . and are very willing to help in getting jobs or career advice," and faculty "bring their students in touch with prospective employers outside the classroom."
Employers likely to hire CSUSB MBAs include Arrowhead Credit Union, GE Transportation, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, American Express Financial, ESRI, Internal Revenue Service, the Central Intelligence Agency, Target, Arthur Anderson, FEMA, Wells Fargo, and almost all the regional accounting firms, banks, and credit unions.
