School Says - Campus Life
The Peter B. Lewis Building, opened in the Fall of 2002, is the culmination of the vision of the Weatherhead community. Named in honor of visionary donor Peter B. Lewis, Chairman of The Progressive Corporation and one of the nationÂ's top philanthropists, our new building is the most creative, dynamic environment in the world for teaching and exploring business ideas. Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Lewis Building gives the Weatherhead School a striking physical identity within Case Western Reserve University. Inside is a truly unique architectural and technological infrastructure that opens new learning possibilities and gives students the resources they need to compete at the highest levels of business.

State-of-the-Art Learning Environment: The buildingÂ's classrooms are acoustically designed to foster active learning and ensure that every student can be seen and heard comfortably by the rest of the class. The buildingÂ's main classroom is a tiered, oval room that places the instructor and up to 60 students in an interactive setting featuring white boards around the full perimeter of the room, allowing any student to take the lead during class discussions. Outside the classroom, students have access to 14 group study rooms, numerous open meeting areas, a student lounge with meeting space, and a large reading room for quiet study. Faculty offices, classrooms and meeting areas are distributed on every floor to facilitate informal interaction among faculty, students, administrators, and visiting executives, and to complement the Weatherhead SchoolÂ's learner-centered curriculum.

Powerful Technology: The Lewis Building is the most technologically advanced business education facility in the world today. With an all-building switched gigabit network, as well as a broadband network, Weatherhead boasts connections 10 to 100 times faster than other business schools. This robust infrastructure enables multimedia and video conferencing with schools and organizations across the globe from every classroom. Each individual classroom seat has ample power and data connections to the Internet and CWRUnet, the UniversityÂ's fiber optic network.

Students Say - Academics
Offering the "top organizational behavior program in the world," the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western University is widely regarded as "one of the country's top graduate business programs," ensuring "brand equity in a Weatherhead degree" to all who succeed here. Students tell us that Weatherhead also excels in entrepreneurship and management information systems and that its finance program "is underrated." "I've been very impressed with it," says one student. A stellar regional reputation makes Case the ideal choice for those who "want to live and work in Ohio."
Weatherhead offers a conventional 2-year, full-time MBA, a "well-regarded" 11-month accelerated MBA, and a part-time program with great flexibility that allows students to work toward their degree at a pace that works for them. All programs include the Leadership Assessment and Development (LEAD) course, a distinctive program feature designed to help students develop long-term career goals and strategies. The Weatherhead MBA also incorporates a Strategic Issues and Applications (SIA) integrative capstone course that centers on case studies and group projects.
Not satisfied to rest on its laurels, Weatherhead is currently in a period of transformation. Students tell us that the "Administration is currently working on focusing our programs to differentiate us" and warn that "some people who came here for a specific reason that is not in the 'plan' anymore may feel they were offered something that wasn't available." A revolving door within the administration further underscores the transition. As far as deans go, one student reports, "We're on something like our fifth one in 4 years." (Some tell us that "the biggest issue is with the turnover of deans in the School of Management and some faculty leaving because of this." Things are looking up here, though; as one student puts it, "While the school has gone through a lot of change in the last few years, the new staff and administration are remarkably more accessible, transparent, capable, and inclusive in their current roles, as well as in the strategic plan for the school in the future."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to Weatherhead MBA programs must submit the following materials to the Admissions Office: a completed application form; official copies of transcripts for every undergraduate or graduate program attended; an official GMAT score report; two letters of recommendation; a current resume; and essay responses to three questions provided as part of the application package. International students whose transcripts are not in English must have their transcripts translated and interpreted by a professional service. Students whose first language is not English must also submit an official score report for the TOEFL. All international applicants must submit a statement of financial responsibility. The school requires an interview for admission. Weatherhead prefers candidates to submit their applications online. Hard-copy applications may take longer to process, the school warns.

Students Say - Campus Life
"There is a real sense of community here" among Weatherhead full-timers, who tell us that they "get to know the professors, staff, and students all very well. Many professors go on a first-name basis with students and will attend social events the school has put on." Extracurricular events include "the 'Pull up a Chair' event, which takes place once a month and is put on by professors. There have been ping-pong tournaments, a business fashion show sponsored by Talbots, and a billiards contest." Clubs including the Entrepreneurship Venture Association, the Marketing Club, Net Impact, and the Weatherhead Wine Society are all active and allow for outside-the-classroom interaction. Weatherhead is located "in the heart of Cleveland's cultural center," within a couple of blocks of the Botanical Gardens, Severance Hall ("home of the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra"), Cleveland Museum of Art, The Museum of Natural History, and the Children's Museum.
"There are three types of students at Weatherhead," students tell us: "Engineering/foreign students who typically lack real-world substance; young professionals who maintain work/home/school; and family/parents types who put more energy into their home life, but still contribute with their business expertise." Weatherhead's full-time student body "is about 40 percent international students which makes for an enormous amount of different ideas and backgrounds," says one student. "Each and every one of them brings a lot of experience, creativity, dedication, and ideas to the table." Many tend to be on the youngish side, however, with little in the way of professional background; some American students also find that the shaky English skills of some international students can be a barrier to communication.

Students Say - Careers
The Career Development Center (CDC) at Case has "a brand-new staff, and students have already been placed for full-time jobs or internships with top companies. . . . For students who haven't found a job, the CDC provides resume reviews; recorded mock interviews with staff, faculty, and alumni professionals who volunteer their time; online mock interviews; Career Fridays, which bring in speakers to give seminars on anything from case interviewing to negotiating a job offer; free access to career websites; access for students to our alumni database; feedback on actual interviews; and a library of career-related books and practice manuals for students to borrow."
Employers who frequently hire Weatherhead MBAs include: Johnson & Johnson, American Greetings, Progressive, Bristol West, Emerson Electric, PNC Bank, Ohio Savings, General Electric Company, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Eaton, Ernst & Young, McKinsey & Company, National City Corporation, Key Corporation, and IBM.
