Students Say - Academics"Thirty minutes south of Raleigh, North Carolina, Campbell University is "a small, Christian-centered school with a friendly community and many wonderful majors." Religion, law, and pharmacy are among Campbell's most popular academic programs. However, no matter what you choose to study, be prepared for a challenge. Professors like to turn up the heat, even in introductory classes, and "pride themselves on their difficulty." The good news is that, on this intimate and friendly campus, faculty takes a heartfelt interest in teaching. A junior insists, "My professors genuinely care about whether or not I'm actually learning the material. The focus is not simply getting results on a test, but on preparing me to be a successful professional." Another student adds, "I work hard but receive good grades. Nothing here is easy, but at the same time it's not impossible." Administrators are likewise praised for their open and friendly demeanor, though simultaneously criticized for disorganization. A senior laments, "Communication between departments seems to be rare and disjointed.""
Students Say - Campus Life
"On this safe, pretty, and largely residential campus, "dorm rooms are popular hang-out spots, and often students will gather in a dorm or apartment complex lobby for a movie." In the evenings, "Student Activities hosts a variety of on- and off-campus events including theater trips, ice skating, late-night meals, on-campus karaoke and games, and a lot more." While social life is a part of the educational experience, don't come to Campbell if you want to goof off; "Most of the students here at Campbell seem to be very focused on their academic goals, and compared to other schools, partying is at a minimum." Surrounding Buies Creek is a sleepy town, so, "for movies and concerts, students head up to Raleigh, 30 miles away, or Fayetteville, 30 miles in the other direction." If you aren't up for a road trip, having fun is just a matter of creativity. For example, a sophomore writes, "Lately, my friends and I have gathered up enough interest among our friends to start a nightly hockey league on our outdoor basketball courts. It is excellent exercise and tons of fun.""
Students Say - Student Body
"Campbell attracts a student body that is predominately "white, middle class, [and] moderate to conservative in politics." The school's Baptist affiliation tends to draw a fairly high concentration of religious students, and the typical Campbell scholar has "some kind of church background, yet is not necessarily overly religious." While many students are local, the school "has a surprising number of international students," hailing from more than 100 countries. A student enthuses, "While it is true that many students are from North Carolina, I have had an opportunity to meet and make friends with students from around the world." On that note, most students feel that "Campbell is very accepting" of all types and personalities. A junior attests, "I have never seen a place where everyone is so happy and willing to work with and help others, no matter what the age or ethnicity." "
