Students Say - Academics
The idea that education should be "personal" is at the core of Centre's ethos. The school makes a concerted effort to hire professors who are "first and foremost dedicated to teaching." And their hard work clearly seems to have paid off. Centre is chock full of "amazing" professors who "really care about you and [want to] help you succeed with whatever your final goal is." Make no mistake though; undergrads at this college can't simply kick back for four years. According to one knowledgeable senior, "The curriculum is hard, and no class is easy." Fortunately, any overwhelmed student can take solace in the fact that teachers always have "their doors open." And the rigorous course load guarantees a "truly enriching academic experience." As one junior boasts, "All aspects of my academic abilities have improved including studying habits, critical thinking, problem solving, laboratory familiarity, writing ability, and public speaking/oral presentation ability." Though there's the occasional gripe about policy, by and large undergrads are quite pleased with Centre's administration. They are fairly "responsive" and "make a point to become familiar with many of the students." This accessibility extends even to the president who "does everything from eat in the campus dining hall to go sledding with students in the winter time."

Students Say - Campus Life
Undergrads at Centre typically "fit the mold of students who both work hard and play hard." Students admit that while "the all-night study rooms and all- night computer labs" are frequently occupied during the week, students readily embrace the weekend as a "time for relaxation and as a way to escape [academic] stresses." Greek life is extremely popular, and "sororities and fraternities definitely dominate the college social [life]." Luckily, it's a pretty welcoming scene "where everyone is invited [and] all the houses are always open." Additionally the "student council is good about organizing other activities." These range from "movie nights [and] Carnival" to "study breaks" and "camping trips." While some describe hometown Danville as "small" and "hick," a number of students enjoy eating at some "great [local] restaurants" and taking advantage of "free midnight movies at the Danville Theater." As one sophomore admits, "Wal-mart is always a hot spot to go browsing around." Those looking for a little more action should take heart in knowing that both Lexington and Louisville are within driving distance. It's not uncommon for students to take a road trip to either city to attend a concert or to indulge in a little shopping.

Students Say - Student Body
Despite a small student body, Centre College is a place where every undergrad is fortunate to "be able to find their niche." While groups of students can easily be categorized as "Greeks" or "non-Greeks," "athletes" or "artists," everyone "interacts well." One sophomore attributes this to the fact that the college "encourages students to express their own ideas, faith, and orientations while also being open and considerate to other people's views and beliefs." Regardless of interests and affiliations, Centre students can easily find common ground. Indeed, by and large, undergrads are "here to get a really great education and to have fun." The vast majority of students are "committed to its coursework" and "dedicated to learning as much as possible." Additionally, it's an outgoing and active community where "almost everyone is involved in something outside of academics." However, though the student body is comprised of people who have "a wide range of interests," Centre "does not pro- vide a wide range of ethnic diversity." As one senior reveals, "The typical student is white, and from the South." Rest assured, however, that the college "is aware of its diversity problem and is working consciously to help eliminate it."
