Students Say - Academics
"Lee University is an "affordable" enclave in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains affiliated with the Church of God. All students must complete a "set of religious classes" and, without question, "Christ is king" here. "Christian beliefs are incorporated in every area," relates a senior, "because we believe that Christ is the center of our lives." The school boasts strong offerings in theology, education, and the liberal arts. Premed students enjoy a medical school acceptance rate of over 80 percent. "Lee has an amazing Music Department" as well, with students "who travel and play all around the world." "Class sizes are small enough to ensure that students learn the material for the course, but large enough for discussion among students and teachers." "Studying abroad is very popular," largely because Lee requires "cross-cultural experience." Students are also "required to do service-learning." While "Lee is always providing opportunities to get involved," some students think that "it defeats the purpose to be required to serve others." Lee's "inspirational" professors "get to know you by name." The "helpful and approachable" administration is "very involved." "You are able to find Dr. Conn (the president) and many other administrators and professors attending athletic events and music concerts" on campus. "You are also likely to see them just strolling around school on a daily basis and they are even more likely to stop and talk to you.""

Students Say - Campus Life
""Campus life is vibrant" and "You can certainly find your niche." "It seems like there are about 10 social events every night." Lee's quasi-Greek system sponsors tons of "popular" activities. Choirs and first-rate musical ensembles tour the world. "Intramurals are a big deal." There are "a lot of theological conversations." "Required chapel attendance" means that students go to church "twice a week or so," which "can be incredibly repetitive." "The school's policy on alcohol and drugs is strict," forcing students to "find more creative ways to have fun." Nevertheless, "an underground party scene" exists. Many students feel that "this is one of the more liberal Christian universities in the south." Off campus, "The local town is very small," but there are "great outdoor opportunities." The Ocoee River is "about 20 minutes away" and offers "gorgeous hiking in the mountains, canoeing on the lake, lounging on the lakeside beaches, and kayaking and rafting through the rapids." For more urban fun, nearby Chattanooga is only 30--40 minutes away."

Students Say - Student Body
"Students at Lee are "very religious." "Many Christian denominations are represented." "There are a number of international students at Lee." "Your typical student at Lee was brought up in a middle-class Christian home" and often is "the son or daughter of a pastor, missionary, [or] church board member." Students describe their peers as "upbeat, friendly, [and] very social," but also "very sheltered." "Mostly," though, "It feels like being around a lot of other 18-to-22 year olds." Politically, there is a "conservative majority" but there is also a "very liberal" faction. However, "If someone is a strong believer in a religion other than Christianity, or if they're gay or if they drink, smoke, or do drugs regularly, or want to socialize with opposite-gender friends in their dorm rooms, they would not be happy here.""
