"No false advertising here: Students rave that Northwestern is "exactly like they say it is during college visits, maybe even better." The "amazing" faculty "really care" not only "about the academic progress of students," but also about "how each student is personally doing" and what the school community "is doing to reach out to those in need around the world." The purpose of Northwestern's "challenging" academics is, in the words of one student, "to integrate our faith into our careers." Generally, "Many classes start with a prayer" and "are often centered on a Christian theme." However, these students are a "passionate" bunch, and some think that "as a Christian college [Northwestern] could be doing more with faith in the classrooms." On the small campus, "Administrators are very visible," and they are "known by name and participate in activities campus wide, including talent shows and crazy games.""
Students Say - Campus Life
""Northwestern is in the middle of corn country," says one student. "There isn't a lot in the surrounding area, but that allows for us students to create community and interact with many different types of people." For the most part, the Orange City location is a plus: Most students say they were attracted to it because "It is a Christian school close to home." Students also appreciate the "good financial aid, friendliness, [and] activities." However, some students wouldn't mind if Northwestern gave them "more freedom and control," and were "slightly more lenient on its policies of homosexuality, alcohol/tobacco, and open dorm hours" so as to encourage "more diversity on campus." That said, there are others who feel that administrators are "too lenient and accept anything." Although the cafeteria food "isn't what mom used to make," "parking" is "a little scarce," and "Some of Northwestern's facilities are getting older," students optimistically note that "renovation has begun on" some campus buildings."
Students Say - Student Body
"Northwestern students tend to "have big plans for their future within their majors, in ministry, or within a family or community." "There are all sorts of different kids on campus," but most are "hardworking and easy to get along with," as well as "highly involved socially, academically, and religiously." The typical student at Northwestern is "usually White and Midwestern" and from a "middle-class" family not unlike "the Brady Bunch." Although sometimes "naïve," students tend to be "very friendly and caring" towards one another---so much so that the term "ring by spring," which describes "the large amount of couples who get engaged" each year, is fairly accurate. While "There is not much diversity" on campus, "Minority students are accepted and appreciated.""
