Students Say - Academics
A "gem in the Midwest," Hanover College is a rigorous liberal arts school with an impressive focus on the individual learner. Students absolutely love Hanover's "small but engaging classes," led by professors who "show a high level of dedication to the students, and a great affinity for the subjects they teach." Personalized education is the name of the game at Hanover, where professors "take a personal interest in your education and interests, and strive to make every class engaging for every student, even if it means catering to and adapting to a different learning style than the one they're used to." Hanover's "discussion-led classes are great for those who are interested in real-world applications," and the curriculum is successful in building "essential life skills such as problem-solving and organizational skills." Despite the friendliness of the faculty, a Hanover education is no walk in the park: "The academics are rigorous and students are pushed to levels outside of their comfort zone." A current student tells us, "It has been extremely challenging at points, but with the help and understanding of my professors and peers, it has been very enriching." Fortunately, not every moment at Hanover is all stress and study. An oasis of relaxation, the school's unique Spring Term is a "four week period in May where you only take one class. The rest of the time is devoted to intramurals, parties, and enjoying the weather." On this friendly campus, "The administration is very available" and "very in touch with the students," but students say there's always room for improvement, especially when it comes to "communication."

Students Say - Campus Life
Large and well-kept, Hanover's "gorgeous campus" provides "the perfect set- ting for learning." Located in a little town on the Ohio River, students warn us that, "Even if you have a great group of friends, there is not a whole lot to do. So getting involved is a huge key to being happy here." Fortunately, on and around campus, "There are 165 student organizations," including "intramural sports...club-sponsored outings and a massive wooded area to go hiking in." In addition to organized activities, students like to hang out at the "student- run restaurant on campus called the Shoebox, which has great food and entertainment." Parties are another popular way to wile away the weekend hours. A student explains, "although the administration publishes an annual booklet entitled '164 Things to Do at Hanover College,' it seems that drinking is still a particularly common pastime, especially on Friday and Saturday nights." However, "Students generally are smart and responsible when drinking," and parties are "fairly safe." In addition to the Greek scene, there are "large groups of people who are happy to simply hang out, talk, watch movies, that kind of thing." In addition, "Most people go off campus at least one day of the week- end, just to break routine a little bit." To enjoy more cosmopolitan environs, "Louisville is about 40 minutes away," and nearby Madison is "a great town [in which] to experience community connections and a festive atmosphere."

Students Say - Student Body
At Hanover College, "The typical student is studious, involved in campus activities, and enjoys spending free time with friends." Among the school's 1,000 under- graduates, "The majority of students are white, but there are many other ethnic groups," as well as "a variety of people of different religious backgrounds, sexualities, political views, and personality types." "Students are split about evenly from large suburban high schools and smaller rural schools," though most come from "Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, or Ohio." There are "definitely social divisions at Hanover," which tend to form around certain clubs and social groups. For example, "Most Greek students hang out with Greeks, and most unaffiliated students hang out with unaffiliated students." If you aren't interested in going Greek, "There is an active 'geek' population that is waiting to be tapped if you search for it (Sci-fi Club, Anime Club)." Either way, "Everyone has their own niche, whether it is academic, athletic, Greek or unaffiliated," and "most people are friendly and don't mind crossing-over into a variety of circles of friends."
