"A "spiritually minded," "sheltered, after-high-school environment" that "[teaches] the Bible truthfully and emphasizes morality as something vitally important in all facets of life," Freed-Hardeman appeals especially to devout students. Students rave about the "exceptional education" offered by "wonderful" professors who "care so much about the students. They make it their lives to make sure we have a good education and are prepared for the real world." Students say the Colleges of Biblical Studies, Business, and Education are particularly strong; on the other hand, one Arts and Humanities student grumbles that academic quality in her school is "average" and "take[s] second place to finding teachers [who] are members of the Church of Christ." In addition, says a business student, "The course offerings need work. There are not enough professors to offer adequate courses." Students take a Bible course each semester and attend chapel each morning. They also follow a strict dress code and curfew, and may not drink, smoke, curse, or dance. The administration "tends to treat students like children," comments one undergrad. Another observes that "the administration needs a little more common sense when making and enforcing rules.""

"Freed-Hardeman's "kind, compassionate, friendly, and fun" students are "conservative" and "devoted to walking the Christian path." Many are "looking for a spouse," and "focus more on friendships and getting to know each other more than they do academics." Students say the student body is "homogenous" and "sheltered": "I can count the people [on campus who] are from different countries off the top of my head, and even name where they are from," says one student. While "There aren't that many minority students here," students say, "the ones who are here fit in perfectly." Students across the board emphasize the friendliness and kindness on campus: "There is some kind of vibe they put off that makes anyone feel welcome and right at home. Though everyone is not the same, [students] understand this and treat everyone with respect." The school's religious homogeneity is a plus for students who want a vocal, concerned Christian community. Although "Sometimes students get hounded for certain things others believe are religiously correct," ultimately "Life at FHU is great because your Christian friends can help keep you in check if you do something wrong.""
