Students Say - Academics
You make your education experience, at Arizona State University, a university with multiple campuses across the metropolitan Phoenix area, where you can "find whatever you are looking for." "The business, education and engineering departments are very well-known for their faculty and accomplishments," as are the Biodesign Institute, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the "Honors College, which has great summer study-abroad programs." At ASU, "you get what you put into the system and will succeed and feel that you have gained real knowledge so long as you put in the effort." "If you want to get involved in research and succeed, you can do it, and if you want to play Halo all day and drop out, you can do that too." Students enjoy "quality cross-curricular studies," and "seemingly endless opportunities and resources to not only help uncover what you are passionate about, but also to allow you to pursue those dreams and desires." The sciences offer "a ton of research funding, so there are a lot of awesome opportunities for students to get involved with that," while in pre-professional programs there's plenty of "involvement with [the] career field and companies offering internship opportunities, etc." While some here feel that ASU's size results in a "focus on quantity [that] degrades the quality of classes, especially in large lecture halls," most students still conclude that this is a "good school at a great price."

Students Say - Campus Life
Life at ASU is what you make of it, with plenty of opportunities to pursue whatever you desire. "If all you want to do is study, the library is open 24 hours a day, but if all you want to do is party, it isn't hard to find somewhere to do that either," students explain. The weather contributes to the laid-back atmosphere; "people are so happy and friendly at ASU because of the nonstop sunshine," one student observes. Because "it's pretty much summer all year long...students are always doing outdoors activities, whether it's going to the Salt River, nearby lakes, Spring Training games, college sports games or professional sports games." Students interested in more cultural endeavors should note that the Tempe campus is also home to "a great art museum and theater department that always has exciting events happening, and there are a number of student art organizations that participate in the community." Students brag that home town Tempe has "a fairly rich culture...in regards to the arts and food," and that the Phoenix area "holds a lot of festivals that are fun to go to."

Students Say - Student Body
With "over 60,000 students at ASU" (including graduate students), there are "too many students for someone not to fit in somewhere" around the university. And while "there are a lot of tanned jocks and sorority girls" on campus, there are "also a lot of eccentric people who fit into their own niches," and the campus has "a lot of clubs...geared toward making smaller groups feel welcome. These small groups often expand rather quickly." Be aware that "depending on what your specific degree is, the student population differs greatly"-"there is a typical engineering student, a typical business student," etc. Most here agree that the student body includes "large populations that are more concerned with partying than the true essence of education," but that there are also plenty of "individuals who care deeply about their futures and education." Most everyone here is "plugged in: iPod, laptop, cell phone, and texting; you name it, they're on it."
