Students Say - Academics
Nazareth College is "a very personalized school" in the suburbs, "about 10 miles from downtown Rochester, New York." "Education is a huge degree program" and there are quite a few physical therapy and nursing majors. Naz is also great for theater and music. "All of their productions are always spectacular," gushes a sophomore. "I constantly feel like I'm watching a Broadway show whenever I go see one." The academic pace is reasonable. "I would say that our academic program is rigorous but not mental-illness inducing," suggests an English literature major. "I count this as a strength." "Most of the professors are a lot of fun, and they try to make classes interesting. Plus, they take the time to get to know you personally, which is great." "Professors care about how you are doing," declares a nursing major. "You are not just a number." Course selection is limited but classes are wonderfully small. "The administration loves student feedback" and receives generally glowing reviews. Nazareth's president frequently walks around campus and greets students. "I think Naz is doing a fine job," proffers a sophomore.

Students here enjoy an "absolutely gorgeous" campus. The residence halls "are very comfortable and quite spacious," and they offer free laundry machines. Socially, there is no Greek system, but the student activities council does a fantastic job of having activities planned." Some of these activities are "lame events," but many are widely attended. Intramural and varsity sports are also reasonably big. The surrounding town is a little hamlet right on the Erie Canal "with fun shops and places to eat." "Pittsford, as a town, is very safe and very nice to walk around in," says one student. However, if you attend Nazareth, you probably want to bring a vehicle with you. "Everyone has a car. It's like a requirement," warns a sophomore. "If you want to find a party, you (usually) can." Older students often frequent the bars and clubs of downtown Rochester for fun. However, "some weekends are slow," and "Nazareth is definitely not a big party school." Road trips are common. "Nazareth isn't really far from anywhere, which makes other colleges, towns, and locations easy to access." Some students also go home on more than a few weekends.

The typical student at Nazareth is a white girl from suburbia-usually somewhere around Buffalo, Rochester, or Syracuse. Students at Naz are "concerned about their grades." "The same kids you see drunk on Saturday night at the bars are the kids working hard in the library all Sunday." They are a little on the cliquey side but "very friendly," too. "There are a few jerks, but nobody likes them, anyway," says one student. "Students here tend to be very liberal." "There are many preppy and sports-oriented people." "There are a lot of artsy and intellectuals," too. "And there are, of course, your weirdoes, but that's normal." There is apparently a notable contingent of gay males as well, "though more straight men are attending as they realize that they have a big sea to fish in."
