School Says - General Information
Since 1918, Seton Hill University, founded by the Sisters of Charity, has been helping students discover their paths and follow them with confidence. It begins with our academic programs. From the visual and performing arts to entrepreneurial studies to biochemistry, we offer degrees that fit your needs and your expectations. And because we are a Catholic liberal arts university, you'll leave Seton Hill with more than just a degree. You'll leave as an individual ready to transform the world.

Seton Hill embraces exploration. That's why we offer more than 35 undergraduate majors and provide numerous internship opportunities. Graduate degrees are offered in nine programs, including the MS in Physician Assistant, MBA and certificate in Orthodontics. At Seton Hill, you will learn with 2,400 students, from all walks of life, representing more than 44 states, 16 foreign countries, and a world of perspectives.

The building of life-long habits of fitness and wellness are an important part of education at Seton Hill. Students participate in sports including baseball, basketball, cross-country, equestrian team competition, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, softball, soccer, tennis, football, and volleyball on both the varsity and intramural levels. More than 40 student clubs and organizations cover professional interests including education, communication, chemistry, and business, as well as academic pursuits, such as honors coursework.

Teaching students to think critically is part of our mission at Seton Hill. Since classes remain small (student-to-faculty ratio is just 15:1) expect professors to question everything and then push you to find the answers. You will learn to make connections between abstract concepts and real-world situations, solve problems creatively, and examine data analytically. In the process, you'll gain something much more valuable than knowledge. We call it wisdom.

At Seton Hill, academic excellence is in the size of our classes. We keep them small so you can dive deep into subjects, ask a lot of questions, and have meaningful interactions with your classmates and professors. It is also in what we call our "liberal arts core," required courses that teach you to think, reason, and solve problems skills that employers not only desperately seek, but skills that will help you throughout life. Academic excellence is in the wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees we offer. It's in our honors program, which takes learning to the next level by introducing students to distinctive out-of-classroom experiences and interdisciplinary approaches to subjects. It's in our faculty, who are sought-after leaders in their fields and passionate about teaching. And it's in our expectations of you. We set the bar high because we want you to excel academically, professionally, and personally.

School Says - Academics
If you're exceptionally curious, highly motivated, and like to look at subjects from several perspectives, Seton Hill's Honors Program might interest you. You'll learn in small groups, explore subjects outside of the classroom, have close contact with faculty advisors, and enjoy our Honors Program housing environment.

School Says - Admissions
Successful applicants to Seton Hill have a strong college preparatory background. Their high school transcripts show a minimum of 15 academic units, comprising 4 units of English, 2 units of college-preparatory mathematics, 2 units of social science, 2 units of the same foreign language, 1 unit of laboratory science, and 4 academic electives.

When a transfer student has applied, the University will consider transferring credits from other institutions by examining transcripts and evaluating each course separately.

Applications to Seton Hill are accepted on a rolling basis, and students are notified of their admissions status in a timely manner after receipt of materials. The complete application packet for incoming freshmen includes the following: a completed application form, a $35 application fee, an official secondary school transcript that displays the applicant's rank and overall grade point average, a recommendation from a guidance counselor or teacher, and an essay, and SAT I or ACT scores. A "write option" plan is possible for students who do not wish to send SAT or ACT scores - this should be arranged with the Admissions staff.

Students Say - Academics
Students come to Seton Hill University for a "quality liberal arts education" delivered in the context of a small and "supportive environment." At this Catholic institution, "personal help, education, and kindness are top priority," and "Faculty and staff genuinely care about the well-being and success of each and every student." "Like any college, there are good professors and bad professors" at Seton Hill. Fortunately, most faculty members "take the time to know their students and become involved in their learning." If you are struggling, "the campus is small enough [to offer] individualized attention if you need additional help," and professors offer "a lot of out-of-class office hours." Some students feel the advising services could be improved, but they assure us that "The admissions office and registrar work very hard to make sure everyone gets where they need to go." Volunteerism, personal growth, and community involvement complement the academic experience; this school "empowers students with a liberal arts education and a foundation in Catholic Social Teaching to make meaningful contributions as productive members of society." On that note, students say that, "Seton Hill really lets the students become themselves. We have classes to help us deal with problems correctly, and clubs to express our feelings."

Students Say - Campus Life
Seton Hill's hilltop campus is an ideal setting for college life. "The campus is beautiful and clean" residents say, and "The dorm environments are wonderful and the staff is very friendly." On this small campus, "There's not a moment where nothing is going on. From academics to clubs, there is always something for students to take part in." Off campus, "there are a lot of bars and bistros in the area" and many students like to grab a bite or do homework in town. It helps that "Seton Hill is located a little bit outside of Pittsburgh and also not far away from attractions in the mountains (like ski lodges)." On that note, students warn us that you need a set of wheels to really enjoy life at Seton Hill. However, Seton Hill runs a shuttle from campus to downtown Greensburg. While some students say weekends can be quiet on campus, others point out "There are awesome activities coordinated by the Student Activities Council every week. We have concerts, game shows, comedians, and magicians on a regular basis." However, "most students simply hang out with friends on campus" for fun.

Students Say - Student Body
Most Seton Hill undergraduates fall into one of two categories: "an athlete or an arts student." Despite these predominant groups, "there are many types of students" at Seton Hill, and "for the most part, everyone gets along." Blending work and play in equal measure, "A typical student at Seton Hill is active and social, [and] very focused on school work." Students generally describe their classmates as "nice, welcoming and very, very friendly." And even "those who are more introverted find quieter friends as well." Unlike the dynamics at other colleges, "The upperclassmen are usually very open to freshmen, and everyone has a fair chance to thrive." While the majority of students come from middle-class families in the Northeast, "there are a wide variety of students from various socio-economic statuses, cultures, and religions."
