Albertus Magnus College, a four-year, private, liberal arts college located in the heart of vibrant southern Connecticut, has chosen its small size on purpose. Founded in 1925 by the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary's of the Springs, Albertus Magnus College educates men and women to become leaders in all areas of their lives.
Faculty members at Albertus come from leading universities and are one of the CollegeÃ's greatest assets. Ninety percent of the 75 full and part-time faculty members hold a Ph.D. or the equivalent. The student-staff ratio of 13:1 means that they want to get to know students on an individual basis, and they are readily accessible for academic and personal counseling. The College believes that training in the liberal arts is excellent preparation for life and offers the groundwork for a multitude of professions.
The most popular majors at Albertus include business, communications, criminal justice, education, psychology and sociology. Boasting several turn-of-the-century mansions sprawled over rolling green lawns; the Albertus campus is located in an idyllic New England setting. New Haven is a multicultural city with a population of more than 130,000 people. Both New York City and Boston are easily accessible by train, and for the outdoor enthusiast, there are numerous beaches and hiking trails in the immediate vicinity.
Albertus Magnus College has approximately 500 students in the traditional undergraduate program. The highest percentages of students come from the regional New England states. About 60 percent of the students live on campus in housing that has been converted from large former estate homes. The housing program fosters a strong sense of community spirit, and students often plan informal gatherings and other social events in their residence halls. The Campus Center is a hub of student activities such as comedians, live music, contests, and other unique celebrations.
School Says - Student Body
Being an active part of the Albertus Community is an important part of stepping into your future. After all, the numerous extracurricular activities offered at Albertus are essential to an education committed to engaging your mind, body, and spirit.
Commuter resources: Albertus has an active non-residential student population that takes full advantage of all student activities and athletic opportunities. A Commuter representative is elected each year to the Student Government Association to address concerns and issues of specific importance to commuters.
The Student Government Association is the governing body for all student organizations, publications and clubs. It also operates the House of Bollstadt, the College's pub, which features entertainment such as comedians, hypnotists, theme nights, air hockey, foosball, ping pong, music and television. Students plan major events and activities on campus that include semi-formals, drive-in movies, midnight study breaks, and performances.
