Students Say - AcademicsWhy attend Rutgers' MBA program? According to students, because of its "reputation," "reputation," "reputation." "The tuition is reasonable and the education is of the highest caliber for a New Jersey public university," one student explains. Add to this an MBA program that requires "only 57 total credits" for the degree, and "only three courses needed for a concentration," and the deal gets sweeter. "Convenience" is another popular factor, meaning that many students are from Camden or nearby cities and towns. "The location is perfect for where I live," one student says. "It's close to everything (Philadelphia, the New Jersey Shore, and even New York City)." "The expectations for students are high" at Rutgersâ"Camden School of Business thanks to "the opportunity to learn cutting-edge, real-world applications from experienced professionals." It's these professionals who enable students here to fulfill such expectations. "The Faculty is very impressive and they bring a well of knowledge to the classroom," one student notes. Another adds, "The professors are very approachableâ"they understand that we are working professionals and that we all have families, jobs, and a life away from Rutgers. They are very understanding and supportive, yet still challenging." Many students with families or jobs take advantage of Rutgers' "part-time" course offerings, particularly in the "evening" and also appreciate the "great ability to accelerate [their] degrees via summer and winter sessions." Such flexibility results in "a wide variety of students from a number of different backgrounds." The administration also gets high marks from students for "going the extra mile to make sure each student is satisfied with his or her experiences at the university." "If a problem develops, the professionals at Rutgers are eager to solve it in a timely fashion," one student notes. "You never experience the âisolated' feeling at this school." Others praise the "great facilities," but would like to see the school "offer more classes" "online" and at its other, off-campus locations. Some would also like the "course classifications" process to run more smoothly. "Two of my arguably finance-based Special Topics courses (Raising Capital and Corporate Restructuring) were classified as Management courses, depriving me of a desired concentration in Finance," one student says. However, as one student adds, "It may not be the most attractive school, but I believe the quality of education ranks close to if not among elite MBA programs."
Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the Rutgers-Camden MBA program must submit the following: an online application (available via the school's website), original undergrad and-if applicable-graduate transcripts, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, GMAT scores (the GMAT is "waived for applicants with a PhD, JD or MD degree from and accredited U.S. institution), and a current resume (optional, but recommended). Students with an LSAT score in the 80th percentile may submit that instead of the GMAT. International applicants are required to submit a minimum TOEFL score of 213 on the computer version, 550 on the paper version, or 22 (writing), 23 (speaking), 21 (reading), and 17 (listening) on the internet version. International applicants must also submit a Financial Statement Documentation (also available via the school's website).
Students Say - Campus Life
Many students here agree that "the business school is like a family," since despite the "many different backgrounds and experiences, [they] all have something in common: ambition!" Students note that most of their "competitive," "motivated," and "mature" peers "are established in their discipline and are looking for the opportunity to take their career to the next level." In line with this focused approach to education, these "overworked MBA students are generally only on campus for classes," meaning that a schoolbased social life can be "hard to find." Despite this, while they're in class together students find each other "friendly" and "helpful." "They're just swell," one student adds. After class, those who don't head home say, "The school offers a number of different clubs and activities." For those leading a double-life as student and family person, "Rutgersâ"Camden does a great job of allowing students to balance work life and home life with a quality MBA education." According to some students, Camden "isn't the nicest place to be." However, "great public transportation" and "good facilities" go a long way to offset this. However, some would like to see "transport from the subway and train station to campus" improve. Others mention that the campus itself could use some "landscaping." "[The school needs to] plant some trees and acquire more of the surrounding property to better define the campus," one student says. But despite this, the school's location is its biggest asset thanks to a short distance from Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and Washington, D.C. "There is an abundance of things to do outside of class because of the proximity to Philadelphia," a student explains.
Students Say - Careers
The Career Services office at Rutgersâ"Camden offers a multitude of offerings to jobseeking students, including career coaching, assessment inventories, on-campus recruiting, job fairs, web-based job postings, and resume and credentials help at their career resource center. MBA graduates can join "The Graduates Club," which the school describes as a "state-of-the-art online community that [combines the features of] a traditional off-line alumni club" that "aims to become the foremost meeting place for graduates of the world's leading programs." MBA students can also join Rutgers' Alumni Career Network, "a database of over 1,200 alumni from Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark offering career information and support to current students and alumni." Another option for MBA grads is the Rutgersâ"Camden alliance with Drake Beam Morin ("a provider of career management and transition services) that offers "online resources such as career consultations, resume/cover letter writing, career assessments, networking, discussion boards, and more." "Many students are well known in their industries and each student wants to get as much out of class as possible," one student says.
