School Says - General Information
Keystone College is a small, private college that educates students in the liberal arts tradition. Keystone College has a long history of serving students. What began as Keystone Academy in 1868 has now become one of the most popular and most diverse institutions in northeastern Pennsylvania. Thousands of students have written their college stories at Keystone College, and for good reason! Keystone enhances every studentÂ's story through its unique pledge to graduates: Â"The Keystone PromiseÂ". This guarantee of success includes a promise in writing that within six months after graduating from Keystone and fulfilling the requirements of the Career Development Center, graduates will have received at least one job offer, or where appropriate, be accepted into a transfer or graduate program. In the event this does not occur, additional courses and career counseling are provided at no additional charge. Also included in the Keystone College story is a personalized educational experience. With a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio the college is able to ensure the individual attention that students deserve. Keystone offers a variety of opportunities for experiential learning. Students have completed internships for such places as Dateline NBC, the Philadelphia Eagles, the U.S. Secret Service, Late Night with Conan OÂ'Brien, and the United States Olympic Committee. Students may also choose to take their studies or internships abroad. Recently, Keystone students have studied or worked in London, England; Prague, Czech Republic; Bangkok, India; Melbourne, Australia; Ireland; Spain; and Costa Rica. Hands-on learning is also available without setting foot off campus. Among top-notch facilities for the visual arts, theatre, the sciences and technology are unique offerings like The ChefÂ's Table, which is a student-run restaurant for culinary arts students; the Oppenheim Family ChildrenÂ's Center, a daycare and preschool where education students can train; and the campusÂ's woodlands, streams, and ponds, which provide a natural classroom for students in environmental programs. In addition to its commitment to its student body, Keystone College is fully dedicated to the protection of our environment. Through several green initiatives, the College has greatly reduced the size of the carbon footprint left behind by the campus. These initiatives include: the purchase of four electric vans which replaced three gas powered vehicles, the purchase of Energy Star rated appliances throughout campus, special parking for carpoolers; and Trayless Tuesdays and the utilization of biomass packaging in dining areas. The strength of The Keystone Family makes the picturesque campus a source of intellectual growth, cultural awareness, environmental stewardship, and service opportunities
