School Says - General Information
Chaminade University of Honolulu is a small, comprehensive university, accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is located on a hillside in suburban Honolulu, two miles from Waikiki beach. Chaminade University was established in 1955 by the Society of Mary (Marianists) and named after Father William Joseph Chaminade, a French Catholic priest who founded the Society in 1817. The University encourages learning through cooperation, caring, and mutual respect while offering individualized attention to promote personal and intellectual growth. Chaminade currently offers three bachelors degrees in twenty-three undergraduate majors, seven graduate degree programs, and several professional certificate programs. At any one time, 2,500 to 2,800 students are enrolled in daytime and evening classes. Approximately 1,200 are full-time undergraduates, 1,000 are part-time undergraduates enrolled in the evening program, and 600 are graduate students. Approximately 50 percent of the full-time undergraduate students are from Hawaii, 30 percent form the mainland, 15 percent from the Pacific Islands, and 5 percent are from other countries. The student body consists of students from forty-one states and thirty countries. With the continued increase in the student body, Chaminade now has a wide range of academic, professional, religious, and service clubs. The diversity of its students is reflected in the roster of clubs. Students may join clubs with a professional and academic focus such as the Hogan Entrepreneurial Program and R.O.T.C. Chaminade recognizes the value of a well-rounded education and works to provide its students with academic, athletic, and club programs that balance diversity and participation in order to develop the whole person. Chaminade University is anchored and invigorated by the founding traditions of faith, education, reasoning and social responsibility.

School Says - Academics
The core curriculum at Chaminade is in the liberal arts tradition as such an education provides the students with the basis for personal growth and is the foundation for many careers and jobs. Baccalaureate students must complete at least 120 semester hours of credit. Detailed four-year plans are available for each major through the Office of Admissions or the Office of Academic Advising and Retention. Chaminade students, in almost all fields of study, are required to complete internships where they apply their academic experience to on-the-job-practice for academic credit. Many of these internships lead, after graduation, to the students' first full-time employment.

School Says - Admissions
Chaminade University welcomes applications from all students who have the ability, motivation, and preparation to benefit from the various programs offered. All applicants should have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Adequate preparation typically includes: English Four years Social Studies Three years Mathematics Three years Science Two years College Preparatory Electives Four years The Admissions Office operates on a "rolling: admission basis, the following dates are recommended to insure adequate time for receipt and processing of all admissions documents: Fall semester May 1 Spring semester December 1 First time college students who have or will be completing high school are required to send the completed application form with a $50 application fee to the Admissions Office. On-line applications are also accepted and free of charge. On-line applications are listed on our website at www.chaminade.edu; request that an official high school transcript be submitted to the Admissions Office. Also, arrange to complete either the College Entrance Examination Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) and have the official results sent to the Admissions Office. Transfer students from 2 or 4-year colleges may transfer at any time. No minimum number of units is required for transfer. Applicants who have completed high school and are attending college or have attended college and earned more than 24 semester hours of college credit are required to submit a completed application form accompanied by a $50 application fee. On-line applications are also accepted free of charge. A complete official transcript of the applicant's university or college record and a list of courses in progress will be required. If transfer students have earned less than 24 semester hours of college credits, high school transcripts and official SAT/ACT scores are also required.

School Says - Campus Life
*Chaminade University is located on a hillside of Honolulu, approximately two miles from Waikiki, with splendid views of Diamond Head, Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. Honolulu is a multicultural community, enriched by a great diversity of ethnic traditions. The collegiate experience is much more than class, work in labs and academic research. The Chaminade experience is also rich with opportunities for the personal development of each student. Charged with facilitating and providing opportunities for such growth, the Student Affairs division is committed to enhancing the quality of student life at Chaminade. The division provides programs in career planning, recreational sports, intercollegiate sports, and personal counseling. Chaminade University has three residence halls for first year students on campus and three off-campus residence halls for upper-class students. Single, two, three, four and five person-furnished suites and apartments are available. Dining Services are provided at two on-campus locations. The Courtyard at Henry Hall provides breakfast entrees, hot entrees for lunch and hot entrees for dinner and is a place for a quick snack. The Silversword Cafe, located in Tredtin Hall, has a program designed more for the traditional residential dining program and is open for service seven days a week for lunch, brunch on weekends, and dinner. The Office of Student Activities and Leadership offers opportunities that will connect and involve students in University life through a broad range of co-curricular and extra-curricular events, activities and programs. Clubs and Organizations offer all students a chance to pursue interests and extend their activities beyond the classroom. The Recreational and Intramural Sports program is designed to provide an opportunity for enjoyable, organized recreational activities. Diverse programming is geared to promote healthy lifestyles through fitness, social engagement, skill development, and competition. Past recreational classes and intramural sports include Muay Thai Kickboxing, Self-Defense, Wellness and Nutrition, Latin Dancing, Hip Hop Dancing, basketball, volleyball, billiards, softball, soccer, surfing, X-Box/Playstation and many others. Chaminade University competes at the NCAA Division II level. The institution is a member of the Pacific West Conference. Intercollegiate sports include men's basketball, cross-country, golf and soccer; women's basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.

School Says - Cost Aid
For the 2008-09 academic year, tuition is $16,000. Room costs range from $3,710 to $7,880. Dining costs range from $3,700 to $5,000 depending on the student's choice of meal plan.Chaminade University financial aid is provided through a combination of federal, institutional, and private donor-based sources, and comes in three forms: 1) grants and scholarships (i.e. gift aid); 2) work-study programs which provide students the opportunity to earn their money while being employed in campus jobs; 3) loans provided at low interest rates and reasonable repayment terms. Awards are determined by the student's enrollment status, level of financial need and fund availability. 93.7% of student body receives some form of financial aid.
