Born into a middle-class Indian family, raised in Kuwait, and educated at an unheralded university in India, Shibu didn't have the privilege of an elite pedigree. Instead, he had to rely on hard work, determination, and an insatiable hunger to build something meaningful.

Currently Chief Revenue Officer at MixRank, a data intelligence platform that provides real-time insights into workforce movements and company performance, Aswin transformed the operation from a skeleton crew into a juggernaut making millions of dollars in revenue.

From learning English by watching TV and launching a failed startup to accidentally stumbling into a thriving sales career, none of the experiences that have contributed to Aswin's success have been conventional.

Aswin's Mold-Breaking Origin Story

Aswin grew up in India, and when his parents took jobs in Kuwait, he went with them. Left to his own devices after school, he spent his afternoons watching TV, surfing the internet, and soaking up global culture.

This early exposure became his secret weapon, sharpening his English, cultural adaptability, and business instincts years before stepping into the professional world.

But it wasn't just Aswin's unconventional background that equipped him for his current role leading a global sales team; he has learned many key lessons from his successes and failures that can serve as inspiration for other entrepreneurs.

Learning from Limitations and Failures

Aswin eventually moved back to India and enrolled in what he calls a "third-tier" university, where his keen social skills, innate curiosity, and penchant for risk-taking served him well.

He got a head start on networking and showed an early talent for entrepreneurship, launching a home kitchen robots startup. Although it didn't take off as he planned, this period taught Aswin valuable lessons in resilience and adaptability that he still leans on to this day.

An unexpected benefit of this failed venture was that it motivated him to learn more about what goes into launching a successful startup. To this end, he joined Profoundis, a small Data-as-a-Services and IT outsourcing company founded by one of his university's alumni. This critical connection eventually led to Aswin's first big breakthrough.

"With all the limitations I have, I was given opportunities through education, networks and being in touch with the right people," says Aswin. "And it's changed my life."

What happened next perfectly exemplifies his point: what started as a support ticket that came in through Profoundis's website turned into Aswin closing a sales deal. This taught him that sales isn't just about pushing a product, it's about solving problems and building trust.

It was this lesson that would propel him forward into the next phase of his career.

From Global Markets to Scaling Startups

Aswin quickly transitioned into a full-time sales role, handling everything from cold outreach to contract negotiations. He built a small sales team and helped generate $50K in revenue with a run-rate of $150K per year in just a few short months.

His work caught the attention of FullContact, Inc., a Denver-based data company that went on to acquire Profoundis. Instead of being sidelined in the transition, Aswin took on a leadership role in India as Head of International Sales.

For the first time, he was working directly with a US-based company, navigating cultural differences, handling international clients, and proving that location doesn't define talent.

Aswin slept in a sleeping bag in his office for the first eight months of his time with FullContact so he could run the Indian team during the day and work closely with leadership in Denver without missing a beat.

Under his management, FullContact's India team closed $150K in sales in their first full year—solidifying Aswin's expertise in scaling global sales teams.

From there, he joined MixRank as the first remote employee and sole salesperson, where his job was to build the start-up's revenue from the ground up. Instead of seeking endless rounds of venture capital funding, Aswin focused on maximizing operational efficiency, pushing for profitability, and implementing sustainable hiring practices.

With Aswin's sales insights informing key decisions, MixRank doubled its revenue within the first fourteen months, achieved 50% year-over-year revenue growth, and has eventually scaled into a company that employs 50 professionals across more than 21 countries.

"I consider myself someone who has benefited massively from luck and from the people in my life who have opened doors for me," explains Shibu. And now he's paying it forward. "I am working on a program called y∅ for entrepreneurs — or future entrepreneurs — who want to develop their own profitable ideas but lack mentorship and are constrained by resources. It has been incorporated and we are currently hiring a team around it to help support aspiring entrepreneurs across the world."
