This Franchise Offers an In-Demand Service and 'Recession-Resistant' Security At uBreakiFix, customer service is as important as device repair.

Perhaps it comes as little surprise that today, virtually every person age 18+ in the U.S. owns a cellphone and nearly all of them are smartphones. These devices are people's primary tool for accessing the internet and many other common tasks like texting, taking pictures—you name it. This increased dependency means that when their smartphones break, people want them fixed fast.

Enter uBreakiFix, a franchise company that aims to fill that demand. Founded in 2009 and franchising since 2013, uBreakiFix offers mail-in and walk-in repairs of smartphones as well as other devices including tablets, computers, and video game consoles. Based in Orlando, Fla., uBreakiFix has more than 500 stores across the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean.

According to uBreakiFix's Brynson Smith, a huge part of the company's value proposition is trust. Customers have valuable, sensitive information on their smartphones and don't want to hand them over to just anyone to get them repaired, he says. At uBreakiFix, you get someone in your local community who can get your device fixed quickly and whom you can trust.

To get started, new uBreakiFix franchisees should expect to have between $60,400 and $225,350 on-hand for the initial investment. There's also a $130,000 liquid cash requirement and a $40,000 initial franchise fee.

New uBreakiFix franchisees don't need to be tech experts, Smith says. With 48 hours of on-the-job training and 96 hours of classroom training, uBreakiFix teaches franchisees how to hire and manage the right people and provides them with a playbook of strategies to set them up for success.
