Till a few weeks ago, we were all far away from the terms such as quarantine, social distancing and lockdowns, and most importantly COVID-19. It is unfortunate how easily and rapidly these terms engulfed our lives, almost controlling it. These terminologies have become a reality in current times. Though we are currently amid a one-of-a-kind hapless global event, it is not going to stay forever. No matter how intimidating the existing scenario may appear, we cannot let it dictate our future.

One must seek the silver lining. Schools, colleges, businesses and transportation modes are all temporarily shut. This interval has connected us to a long lost buddy-time. Before today, we have grumbled and missed its holy presence in our daily lives. The long wait is now over. Maybe this is the time to ruminate in retrospect. Maybe, now is the right time to realign and nurture your aspirations. Here's how:

Reconnect with your ambition

Simply rewind or take a sneak peek into a flashback to understand what you always wanted to be. Realize your ambition. Search for that one profession that you feel is made for you. One cannot enter any random occupation they once eavesdropped. Neither can we trespass all professions mindlessly without proper knowledge. So, find that one job that you wish to pursue for the rest of your life. Reconnect with your goals and how you want to mould your career. Focus on what you want to achieve.

Introspect and take a step

This is one of the most important aspects people mostly ignore. Once you are aware of what you wish to do, the next step is how to reach there. Do a SWOT analysis. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses equally gives you a clear picture of the present which can be then utilized to better your future. Be apprised of what you lack and focus on improving those areas to get your dream job.

Imbibe DIYs and pragmatic thinking

Self-learning is the best form of understanding. Utilize your time in understanding the concepts related to your field of study. Try to envision where the concepts can be put to use. Primitive pedagogies of rote learning are of zero use if one is not aware of their application in real time. Reading, learning, understanding and applying are distinct processes. This especially applies to the jobs of medical practitioners, architects and engineers.

Be mentored by the best

With ample time in hand, one may search and connect with the gods of their fields. Follow their work to understand what they did and how they reached there? Seek their help when in doubt as their guidance can aid you with your subject, immensely. Such experts can render priceless advice and suggestions for your career.

Identify the right organizations and apply for a job

This may sound debatable but some organizations and verticals are functioning unhindered, despite the coronavirus crisis. Most of such organizations have requisite infrastructure in place and the model of their business enables employees to work from home. Identify those organizations and apply for a job. It is also important to connect with organizations that support remote learning during such times. They can assist you with your goals and open new windows to better opportunities. But, most importantly, they help you in staying positive.

Numerous e-learning platforms and skill-enhancing programmes are operating online today. Such ventures offer boot camps (offline and online) to train and refine the talent to make them job-ready, no matter how complex or crucial the field. For instance, there are incubation labs to hone the skills of the engineers. It not only empowers learners by upgrading their skills but is also instrumental in leading the right type of talent to the right opportunities. Such skill laboratories work to bridge the employability deficit by leveraging experiential learning and expert guidance. Exceptional initiatives such as these can be availed from the safe confines of your home. We are living in a closely connected world, and the absence of physical presence cannot dampen your spirit to learn.

In today's time, quarantined at home doesn't imply being away from opportunities. The virtual world is observing traffic like never before. If a tectonic shift in remote working is happening worldwide, how can remote learning be far away?

The night is always darkest before dawn. But when the sun rises, it shines bright and casts away every sign of darkness. It only depends on what time we rise to reap the benefits.
