In this video, Entrepreneur Network partner Brian Tracy talks about how to get your book into the hands of readers.
Tracy notes that though it may be difficult to get in with traditional publishers, keep in mind these well-known companies can offer resources in terms of marketing and credibility. A literary agent can offer influence and connections, which can help get your book in front of other people.
Most likely, when a book does arrive on an editor's desk, they are looking to see if a book is commercially viable. To make it past this first round, you may have to contend with some major edits from editors, warns Tracy.
Some authors, Tracy notes, are willing to "type for cash," but other writers may hope to keep the integrity of their story. Some self-published books that have made their way into popular culture and stayed true to their original stories include "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Tale of Peter Rabbit."
