Ajinkya Kulkarni grew up around conversations of business, risk, and patience. His father was an entrepreneur, and for a brief period, Ajinkya worked alongside him. The experience was instructive, but not fulfilling. "I realised early that learning from a family business is different from building something of your own," shared Kulkarni, Co-founder and CEO of Wint Wealth. That clarity guided him toward charting an independent path, shaped by observation but driven by personal conviction.
After completing Mechanical Engineering from IIT Gandhinagar, Kulkarni stepped into the world of lending and financial services. "Over the next six years, I worked across underwriting, credit marketplaces, and product design, gaining a close view of how money actually flows in India," he added.
He built a merchant lending vertical at Mswipe, worked on alternate-data credit models at CreditVidya, and earlier founded an invoice discounting platform for SMEs. "Each role added a layer of understanding—about risk, trust, and the invisible gaps in India's debt ecosystem," Kulkarni mentioned.
One gap, in particular, stood out with him. "India had a trillion-rupee corporate bond market—but retail investors had almost zero access to it," he said. Institutional players accessed secured, predictable returns, while individuals oscillated between volatile equities and low-yield fixed deposits. "A healthy investment culture cannot survive without fixed income being accessible to everyone," Kulkarni added.
That insight led to the founding of Wint Wealth in 2020. Launched as a SEBI-regulated digital platform, Wint Wealth was built to give retail investors access to fixed-income products traditionally limited to institutions, including corporate bonds, securitised debt, and NBFC NCDs. "The goal was to bridge the gap between low-yield fixed deposits and volatile equity markets by offering curated, higher-yield debt investments with clear structures and disclosures," Kulkarni highlighted.
"If people don't understand what they're investing in, they shouldn't be investing at all," he believed. Wint Wealth's primary goals were to democratise institutional-grade debt and give fixed income a significant place in family portfolios.
By 2025, the platform had grown alongside a broader shift in investor behaviour, as more people started to take fixed income seriously as an asset class. Challenges around awareness and education persisted, but Kulkarni sees this phase as foundational. "We are still early," he said. "The real work is making bonds familiar to Indian households."
