Entrepreneur Ananya Birla has announced the launch of Birla Studios, a new film production studio that will focus on creating high-concept commercial cinema with an emphasis on storytelling and cultural relevance.

According to the announcement, Birla Studios has been set up to develop films that balance wide audience appeal with artistic ambition. The studio aims to back stories that are rooted in strong narratives while remaining commercially viable, with a focus on emotional connection and long-term resonance.

Ananya Birla said cinema remains one of the most influential forms of expression. "We are all stories. Cinema is one of the most powerful mediums through which those stories are told. At its most powerful, cinema creates an immediate connection while leaving a lasting resonance," she said. She added that the studio's approach would involve supporting new talent and exploring diverse genres and perspectives. "Our focus is on curating a slate of films that balance cultural significance with strong entertainment value," Birla said.

Birla Studios is planning a multi-language slate that includes films in Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam and other regional languages, as well as English-language projects.

Launched in 2026, Birla Studios describes itself as genre-agnostic, with an emphasis on depth, craft and enduring relevance. The studio plans to support emerging filmmakers and new voices while backing ideas that have the potential to reach a broad audience.

Ananya Birla brings prior entrepreneurial experience to the venture. She is the Founder and Chairperson of Svatantra Microfin, which is currently India's second-largest microfinance institution. In 2025, she also launched consumer brands Contraband and LOVETC under Birla Cosmetics.

Beyond her independent ventures, Birla plays an active strategic role within the Aditya Birla Group. She serves on the group's apex strategic body, ABMCPL, and sits on the boards of Hindalco, Grasim, and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. With Birla Studios, she is extending her involvement into the film and entertainment sector.
